The paved roads of Highland County were laid on top of the dirt tracks from wagon ruts. This is the land of early settlers. Ranchers and farmers who tamed this mountain land and built bright futures for their family.
We don’t have details on the family that built this log cabin, but we can easily imagine them. The care they took in placing the windows, the meals cooked over the fire.
Today, this home remains a woodland refuge, beautifully remodeled by the loving hands of Wild + Free families. A place with 50 beautiful acres of hiking, filled with ferns and moss, and soaring with pine trees.
The Hobbit houses and spring house on the property are places of creation, allowing for open windows and cool breezes while the rain pours outside.
This is a place of magic and beauty, and we can’t wait for you to explore it all!
Highland County is known for its wide-open spaces, rolling hills, and maple syrup. The Forest Cabin sits on the Wild + Free Farm Village, a place where the stars shine a bit brighter, the trails lead you to another place in time, and the mountain views take your breath away. We can't wait for you to experience it!
Built in the 1800s, the Forest Cabin cabin fills you with warmth and history the second you step in. This is a place to relax, learn from nature, and connect with those you love.
When Wild + Free acquired the Farm Village in 2019, a group of dedicated volunteers helped us to restore and renew this property. The location of the cabin on the Farm Village property grants you access to miles of hiking trails and the Washington and Jefferson National Forest.
You'll be met with a beautiful landscape, void of any outside distractions. Organic bed linens and two cozy fireplaces make this retreat one for relaxation and comfort. The Forest Cabin is located about an hour and a half west of Charlottesville, VA, and just 30 minutes from the beautiful, historic town of Monterey. One thing is for sure - there is no getting to Head Waters, Virginia without stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The Wild + Free Forest cabin is just three hours away from Washington, DC, making it a great way to extend a family trip to include miles of wilderness.
